Founding by Golf Pioneers and a Local Patriarch

1929

Shohei Hotchi

The Kasumigaseki Country Club was founded on the passion and combined efforts of three figures: Shohei Hotchi, the patriarch of an established family in Kasahata who wished to build a golf course on his land, and course designer Kinya Fujita and player Shiro Akaboshi, two pioneers of the Japanese golf scene who agreed that the vast Hotchi estate was an ideal site. The move to establish the KCC began in the spring of 1929, and construction work commenced soon thereafter.

In May the club held its inaugural general meeting. By the end of September the 6,600-yard, par-72 East Course was completed on the 147 acre plot of land. It had taken only eight months since the start of construction. The KCC held its opening ceremony on October 6 with an initial membership of 310.
