History of Kasumigaseki

1946 Oct Recovery of 9 holes from the East Course and 9 holes from the Old West Course was completed, and use of 18 holes was resumed.
1948 Jul Part of Old West Course (No.6 to 12), changed to farmland, was sold.
1950 Feb Part of East Course, sold to NKK Farm in 1944, was bought back and recovery work started in September. (Supervised by Seiichi Inoue)
Dec
Publication of club magazine ‘’Fairway’’ was restarted after 10years of suspension. Since then, it has been regularly issued till now.
1952 Mar Requisition by the US Air Force ended after six years and seven months.
Sep East Course regained its original 18 holes as recovery work was completed.
1954 Jun New West Course (Architect: Seiichi Inoue) was completed and opening ceremony was held in October 1954. Kasumigaseki returned to a golf club with 36 holes.Aerial Photos
1955 Nov Second clubhouse was completed.
1956 Sep 21st Japan Open Championship was held at West Course (Winner: Torakichi Nakamura).
Nov
4th Japan Women’s Championship was held at West Course (Winner: Hatsuko Yokogawa).
1957 Mar Prior to Canada Cup, East Course was partly renovated (Architect: Seiichi Inoue).
Oct
5th Canada Cup was held at the East Course (Individual winner: Torakichi Nakamura, Team winner: Japan). It was broadcast by television for the first time in Japan, and triggered a nationwide boom for the game of golf.
1960 May Play of US President Dwight Eisenhower and Japanese Prime Minister Nobusuke Kishi was canceled at the last moment due to a political protest.
Dec
Partnership with Ibaraki Country Club at Osaka started. Both clubs have a common history of its East Curse’s renovation by C.H. Alison and of its West Course’s design by Seiichi Inoue.
1961 Apr Sam Snead visited Kasumigaseki.
1964 May
6th Japan Women’s Amateur Championship was held at West Course (Winner: Tamako Izumiya).
1965 Jun
50th Japan Amateur Championship was held at East Course (Winner: Shinji Morikawa).
1967 Oct
Big Three in Japan was filmed at East Course (Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player).
1969 Jun A kindergarten at club ‘’Kinder House’’ was opened intending to improve welfare for caddies.
1971 Aug
Kasumigaseki started hosting Japan Junior Championship from this year, and it continues to be annually held at Kasumigaseki.
1972 Oct A public bus road crossing the West Course was relocated to outside of golf course.
1974 Jun 16th Japan Women’s Amateur Championship was held at West Course (Winner: Machiko Yamada).
1977 Jun 62nd Japan Amateur Championship was held at East Course (Winner: Masahiro Kuramoto).
Oct
Lesson program of Bob Toski was filmed at West Course.
1979 Oct
East Course was selected among the world top 50 golf courses by Golf Magazine of USA.
